Labour and the panel are separate lines
The £50 is the work: removing the bezel, working carefully around the hinges, fitting the matching panel, and testing the lid through a full open and close. It’s a flat £50 for labour on Windows laptops and Chromebooks.
The second line is the panel itself. We price it for your model, and you see that price before it’s ordered. A basic HD panel and a touchscreen assembly don’t cost the same, so we don’t publish a table that pretends every lid is identical. If we don’t have your exact part number yet, we’ll quote it once we do.
MacBook lids are a different assembly. Fitting for those is £85 plus the panel, so an Apple quote is built differently from the Windows £50 line. That starting point is on the Wickford screen page.
Most jobs are ready in 1 to 3 working days, depending on how quickly the UK supplier can ship that panel.
Why two cracked laptops aren’t the same total
The labour figure barely moves. The panel price does, for ordinary reasons:
- The model. A school Chromebook and a 15” touchscreen don’t use the same part.
- Touch or not. A touch layer is a different assembly from a plain LCD.
- What else broke. Lines, flicker or a dim picture can come from the panel or from a display cable problem, and we’d rather find a cable fault than sell you a panel you don’t need. A twisted lid can also mean hinge damage.
- The machine around the screen. A cracked lid on a laptop that also won’t charge is two jobs, because screen labour doesn’t include a battery or a charging port.
That’s why a neighbour’s invoice isn’t your quote. Diagnostics are free, so the split is clear before you agree to anything.
Your files almost always stay where they are, because a panel swap doesn’t wipe the drive. If the lid shows nothing at all, connecting an external monitor shows whether the rest of the laptop is working before anyone pays for a panel.

- Fixed quote. Labour is a flat £50, plus the panel price for that model, before the part is ordered.
- You approve it. No panel gets ordered on a guess.
